David Prowse is English not Scottish.

Apparently to this day, he and David Prowse have never met.
I saw Prowse at a convention once, and he did say, however, that he appreciates James Earl Jones correcting people when they say he played Darth Vader, telling it was Prowse who really played the role.
Apparently David Hyde Pierce deferred to Doug Jones in much the same way regarding the role of Abe Sapien in the first “Hellboy”.

Perhaps not but David Prowse’s Charity work will go some way towards it.
It is odd that so many people seem to think Dave is Scottish, he doesn’t sound remotely Scottish but it is kind of James to give so much acknowledgement to Dave’s contribution which was more than just standing around in costume.
The combination of Dave’s body language and James’ spoken dialogue really made that character.

It`s strange how most (I said most, not all)Americans can`t distinguish English/ Scottish/Irish accents, whereas I think most Brits can tell quite easily, if an American comes from New York, Boston, L. A. or Texas, for example.
Incidentally, Dave Prowse is from Bristol, England. Search YouTube for the green cross code man.

They just announced David was diagnosed with prostate cancer and he won the fight.

A more apt comparison would be: can Brits tell the difference between New York, New Jersey and Boston? I don’t know. Perhaps you do, since you know most Americans and most Brits.
Comment by OneBlueSun — February 8, 2010 @ 6:05 pm
I think some of the “Scottish” confusion comes from the fact that the Bristol accent is Rhotic. Most Americans aren’t familiar with a English speaking with a Rhotic accent, and assume it is Scottish – an accent they are at least vaguely familiar with – which is, generally speaking, a rhotic accent.
Mind you it could be just blind ignorance of course.
If you don’t understand what I’m saying, look at Wikipedia.

@EASYTIGER10 you didn’t necessarily talk intelligently, what you said is common sense to most people. Or i’m just a nerd ha-ha.
Comment by crittgamer11 — February 14, 2010 @ 10:55 pm
I admit I’m a nerd! I don’t think most people know what a “rhotic” accent is though, but can probably work it out.
I shouldn’t have put the “blind ignorance” line though, that was rude.

“A more apt comparison would be: can Brits tell the difference between New York, New Jersey and Boston?”
I’m Australian, which is close enough, and yes, I can. Boston is obvious immediately, and I’m pretty sure I could distinguish New Jersey and New York at least 3/4 of the time.
